Flash Player 8 - new stuff
July 12th, 2005As most of you probably already know, Flash Player 8 beta is out. Following the old tradition that (most) features work in new players with swf's exported with old authorings here is one feature example.
Transparent png/gif and progressive jpg loading.
Strangely it only works with loadMovieNum. It doesn't work with clip and loadMovie.
Here is the fla and rest of the files, try it yourself.
Posting features as we find them.

After some thinking, we tried to change version of the swf in the header of the file. So with the help of the hex editor we changed third bit to 08. Now movieClip loading is working.

So I guess we will need to wait for next release of the player. Unless someone has a vision and gets new code for running effects or other new features.

It’s possible to make Macromedia Flash to export as SWF8, at http://www.nuran.org/ there’s a short description about it.
